Tile Roofs
Clay, concrete and stone-look tile: heavy roofs that live or die on the structure and the underlayment.
Tile does not shed all the water by itself — most of it, with the underlayment underneath doing the rest. That is why tile work is judged by what nobody sees: the battens, the underlayment, the valleys, the pan at the chimney, and the structure carrying the weight.
We look for cracked and slipped tiles, the mortar or foam at ridges and hips, and flashings that dry out faster than the tile does. Repairs use tile matched to what is up there, and when that tile is no longer available we plan the repair so the difference does not land in the middle of the field.
Questions we get about tile roofs
Can a tile roof be repaired?
Yes. Slipped, cracked and broken tiles, failed ridge mortar and worn flashings are all repairable. On an old roof the underlayment is the part worth inspecting.
Do you install new tile roofs?
Where the structure can carry the load, which is checked first. Tile weight is not something to assume.
Can the underlayment be replaced without new tile?
Sometimes, by lifting and relaying the tile that survives. Whether it makes sense depends on how much breaks, and we will tell you after looking.
How do I get a quote?
